Advanced Runescape Video Making Tips and Tricks
'How the Pros Do It''

Ever seen those videos with over 10,000 views? Over 100 ratings and favorites?
You probably have, and you've probably thought of just how they do it.
Well, I'm here to tell you what you can do to help get yourself some of those views and ratings.
I'll be covering what 'successfull' video makers do in their videos to make you go "Ooh - Ahh!"...
So, let's get started.

> Editing & Recording Programs <
You want the best you can get, so you want to make sure you have quality editing and filming/recording programs.
Here, we will be using Sony Vegas as an editing program,
and Camtasia Studio as our filming/recording program.
So, you'll need some basic knowledge in these two programs.
> Use it to your advantage <
I must admit, that making videos with what RuneScape offers you is pretty tough,
and you've got to make sure you've got everything down to make sure your video is successful.
Here are some of the things RuneScape offer you that can be very helpful within a video and can be used for your advantage:
*Areas/Settings/Places
- Clan Wars
- Player Owned houses
- Mini Games
- Restricted areas requiring Quests
(often include some good areas for filming)
*Skill Capes
- Hitpoints
- Defence
- Attack
- Firemaking
- Prayer
- Hunter
- Slayer
- Thieving
Pretty much every skill cape can be used in a runescape video.
*Emote Enhancers
- Prayer Book
(from "The Great Brain Robbery" quest.)
- Flared Trousers
- Jar Generator
- Powdered Wig
- Builder's clothing
*Miscellaneous
- Quest Cutscenes
- Holiday Event items
(Rubber Chicken, Zombie head, easter ring, etc.)
- Teleport Sphere
(from the "Death to the Dorgeshuun" quest.)
- Ectophial
- Ring Of Stone
- Enchanted Lyre
- Lunar Spells
- Snowglobe
- Slayer Bell
- Silver Sickle
- Snake Charm
- Crystal Chimes
(from the "Path of Glourphie" quest.)
- Commorb
- Weapons
(Special Attack emotes)

As you can see, there are many things you can use as an advantage when it comes to RuneScape videos - and what's been listed isn't even close to all the items and areas there are in the entire game!

"Whoa! 700,000 views and over 7,000 ratings!
That's downright beastly!"
As you can see, this is a successful video... What made it successful? In this screenshot, you can see a number of things. The setting, emote, and effects. Now, what really makes it stand out? Multiple things. The main key being effects, as this is what mostly catches the viewer's eye now-a-days. In this screenshot of the video, you can see how it has a dark/sharp look to it, with a white glow. That's better than seeing a light, less attractive setting. Not only that, you want to make sure you select the right setting or area for the mood of the song. Let's say you have a song based on death, or a loss of someone. Do you: [A] Go to the Grand Exchange in Varrock? Or [B] Go to a grave, dungeon, or cave? Your best bet is [B], go to a grave, dungeon, or cave. Perhaps a church or something. Just make sure you keep the mood of the song within the video, and don't add in any random objects that may set off that feel.
Now, let's take a look at two different clips:
One with an effect, and one without.
Which one do you think looks attractive and more effective when it comes to catching the viewer's eye? The one on the right, right? Correct. The two clips were both taken in High Detail, but what makes the one on the right stand out the most?
Well, let's see!
As you can see,
both screenshots are taken from RuneScape High Detail. However, the one to the left is dull, and less darkened. Of course, the one on the left is unedited. You can keep your clip shown as that, or you can spice it up a bit with a few effects as shown on the right. You want the viewer to question your video, make them think, "Hey, how did they do that?" or at least let them have an idea of what they will see from this one screenshot. Now, what I did to the clip on the right was add two effects, called: "Brightness and Contrast" and changed the brightness to about -0.08. Keep in mind that negative numbers mean less lighting, or just makes the clip darker. Then, I changed the contrast to about 0.15, which gave the clip that extra boost to help darken it and set the mood. The second effect was a glow effect. Pretty self explanatory, it just fives off a soft white highlight around the entire area of the clip and really does help.
>Effects, Effects, and even more Effects!<
As we are using Sony Vegas, you'll know that there is an endless (48, to be exact) amount of Effects, or Video FX.
Here are a few effects that help catch your viewers' attention, and help make your video look breathtaking, outstanding, and stunning.

The next bit we'll be look at will be the plot.
It is important to know exactly how you're going to be plotting your video.
If you're going for a RuneScape Movie, you want to make sure you're planning everything out beforehand, espicially if you are doing a series.
If you're going to do a Music Video, you have to decide whether you are going for a storyline, and you have to make sure you know how to interpret it.
If you're going to have a go at a Comdey, well, you've got to make sure you've got a good sense of humor!
And the list goes on, even if you're planning on going for a kareoke or something, always plan beforehand.
Now, if you want to try and make you're own runescape series or movie:
This is by far one of the hardest styles of making runescape videos. You can either use you're imagination and creativity, or have a go at even re-making a movie you saw in real life, and make it as a "RuneScape Movie".
For runescape music videos,
You want to make sure you plan out what you're going to do for the lyrics. If you're going for a storyline within the music video, you may want to split up sections of the lyrics or instrument solos to squeeze in a short movie. Or, you can interpret the storyline within the lyrics using objects and items from the game, aswell as interacting with other players, etc.
Next, we have music selection.
A lot of people, espically in runescape music videos (RSMV's, for short), choose songs within the Rock, Metal, and alternative range.
Techno and hardstyle, country, rap...That kind of music doesn't really fit in with RuneScape, but that doesn't mean they aren't impossible.
To be successful, don't aim towards music you don't even like.
HECK, don't even consider doing a music video with a song you aren't going to have fun doing!!
You're videos will always turn out better if you do a song you'll enjoy - because you can listen to it at ease and won't have trouble when it comes to editing it. Rather than doing a song you don't like, or doesn't suit you, you'll end up editing it worse because you'll eventually end up being completely sick and tired of the song. You've then wasted you're time, and you most likely won't ever go back and look at that video ever again. Sure, alot of people enjoy a song you hate, and not many enjoy the songs you like, but hey, having fun is much better than forcing yourself to do something you don't want to do. That's the whole point of making videos.
Here are a few artists that many people like to aim towards in music videos:
Red Linkin Park Disturbed Skillet Three Days Grace
Bullet For My Valentine The Legion Of Doom Rise Against System of a Down Slipknot 30 Seconds to Mars Fall Out Boy My Chemical Romance
Seether Panic! At the Disco Paramore Foo Fighters Anberlin Plus44 Sum 41
Blink 182 Atreyu Breaking Benjamin Pillar Metro Station Korn All that remains Avenged Sevenfold
Remember, choose a song you enjoy, don't force yourself to do a video when you don't like the song.
Last minute tips:
- Use proper grammar and spelling.
If the line is, "I know you're here, but you're always so far away..."
Don't go all out saying, "I know u h3r3 cuz ur alwayz so far away"...
- Keep the level of editing set to the song.
Slow songs should have less editing, less effects. Fast - paced songs should have harder editing and effects, flashes (optional), whatever you think suits the video best.
"You shouldn't upload any video of yours until you are fully satisfied with it. Take your time, don't rush. If you can't come up with an ideas for a line, even if it is just 2 seconds long, be patient. It will come to you. You can never rush 'perfection'..."
"...Care about your videos. Take your time. Make EACH clip the absolute best you can be. That sometimes even means spending upwards of an hour editing a few seconds of a vid. And don't just use an idea because you can't think of any others. Wait till something comes to you. You'll know it when you think of it."
Well, that about wraps it up. Hope you enjoyed reading this article, and good luck!
